    Poem Commentary

Inspiration: Afraid to be with Chris, because I knew I would be moving to Utah.

    Written in NY

    New Desire

    I can smell the roses
As they wilt upon my life
    A blistering sunrise,
    I dread you today.
    Yearning for a new desire,
    One that keeps me sane.
I hide behind this midnight fire,
    Grasping tight,
    A single handed loss.
Crying for what might someday become
    Fearing what time cant erase.
    A lonely shadow cast tonight,
    We flea before good-bye.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
