    Poem Commentary

Inspiration: Finding out my family would be relocating to Ut.

    Written in NY

    Aftermath

The aftermath of my childhood pain
Hath left me here with nothing to gain.
I have one thing on my mind:
What this road will leave behind.
And now I sit to wonder why
Everything has to end with 'good-bye'
Left to ponder what happens when all is left behind
These thoughts are ramped through my mind
    As others used to be
But now, there’s nothing left of me
I hide what shant be seen
And forward I try to lean
    But all comes through
And I think of an old new
When it was us against them
And we were a newly evolved gem
    Darkness lingers, shadows grey
Only behind the mask these feelings are astray

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
