Message on a pink balloon

I blow up the pink balloon
I blow it not so round or big
I blow it so it land real soon
or so it catches on a twig

I write to you on this balloon
I don't know if it'll land or sail
I'm not sure if someone will read it
to send it not like sending mail

I let it drift up to the sky
I watch it 'till it leaves my sight
I put it in the hands of God
I don't care if it lands in night

If you find this, send this letter
tye it on a pink balloon
let it drift up to the sky
maybe it'll come back to you

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
