Re: Who is your Favorite Poets??

I forgot to add: Robert A. Heinlein and Ray Bradbury. Heinlein does a masterpiece in "Stranger in a Strange Land" and Brabury waxes eloquent and elegant his short-story anthology, "I Sing the Body Electric." Heinlein's is one that a character in the book writes, and Badbury's is just sort of...included, I guess, sort of as one of the short stories. If ya get the chance, y'outta check out these poems -- good stuff!

Re: Who is your Favorite Poets??

He's probably an acquired taste, but -
Shakespeare. If nothing else, please read his sonnets.
Hint: Don't rush - read them they way he wrote them.
I know that sounds like common sense, but many people
try to zip through.

Try Maria Rilke, too.

Re: Who is your Favorite Poets??

It's nice to see who is reading and liking what.
The two that I think about a lot are Robert Bly (especially his prose poems) and Rumi.
There are a lot of others but it's a usual list of suspects (whitman, frost, Jeffers, etc.)
But after reading this post dah's got me wanting to check out a few other I wasn't aware of.

Rilke, T.S Elliot, William Cullen Bryant, Coleridge, Bret Hart, Kipling, Longfellow, Wordsworth, James Hillman, John Dryden, Milton, Shelly, Frost, Thoreau, Spenser, Dylan Thomas, Poe, Milton, Ginsberg, Jack Mitchland, Michael Meade, Bobby Kauffman, Sir Walter Scott, Alexander pope, William Carlos Williams, Mary Ann Moore, Wm Yeats, James Joyce, Seamus Heaney, Archibald MacLeish, Rupert Brooke, Carl Sandburg, Wallace Stevens, Tennyson, Robinson Jeffers (Hurt hawk is a gotta read), Brenda Hillman, Robert Bly ('the rag & bone shop of the heart' is a must read for all poets) Emerson, Edgar Lee Masters (great anthology), Housman, Lao Tzu (the way), Lu Chi (the Wen Fu), Li Po, Rumi, Omar Khayyam, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, John Donne, Heck I have too many favorites to mention. A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
