Exercising Prayer
Dear Lord, I stretch my hands above my head
Inhaling breaths of life
Thanking you for delivering me
From all my stress and strife
You’ve rescued me from certain death
And saved my soul from sin
As I exhale, I release
All negativity within
I sway my arms from side to side
Giving honor and praise to you
For when times get rough and rugged
You always bring me through
Though sometimes my breath is labored
I still lunge towards the goal
I’ve learned that I must pace myself
It’s healthy for my soul
I bow my head and bend my back
As I reach for my toes
Saying prayers and asking mercy
I need delivery from my woes
I used to squat in hiding
Did crunches from all the pain
I could not believe just how much
Weight of the world I had gained
I curl my arms as I receive
My blessings from above
I feel my heart rate increase
As I recognize your love
And sometimes Lord, the race gets tough
But I still sprint to the finish line
For you said that when I get there
Victory will be mine
So I’ll crunch and run and squat and lunge
I’ll stretch and curl and spin
I’m readying myself for the battle
And with your help I’ll win
Father God, I stretch my arms to you
And inhale a breath of life
For as long as I keep this routine
I know I’ll win the prize, Amen.
