    Everyday

Everyday I live with your shit, your grief, and your suffering.

Everyday I comfort you, I lift your spirits, and your hopes.

Everyday you come to me with things you want, things you need, and things you can't have.

Everyday you tell me you problems, your acheivements, and your secrets.

And everyday I listen to you, I stand there with you, and I am there for you.

But when I ask for something simple, something small, or something easy you run away.

You never ask me how my day went.

    You never listen to me.

    You never comfort me.

    Your never there.

So how can I love you so much but you treat me so awful?

It's because your my mother, my parent, my gaurdian.

You raised me, you fed me, you cared for me when I was younger.

As soon as I had an opinion you turned your back on me.

    You lied to me.

    You betrayed me.

And now when things are once again dark and miserable for you.

When it seems like you need me to be there for you the most.

    I won't be there.

I'll be the one to turn my back.

I'll be the one to lie to you.

I'll be the one to betray you.

And why would I do this if I love you so much?

It's because with all your love you did the same to me when I needed you the most.

For everyone who has ever felt let down by there parents or by a loved one your not the only one. We have all been there at least once in our lives no matter what age we are. Things get dark and the ones you trust the most might not be the ones who are the light to show you the way.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
