DOGS ARE HEAVENLY
DOGS ARE HEAVENLY
Do not fret
Though you said good bye
All dogs go to heaven
To await for you to arrive
When you leave
You travel to the gates
So white and pearly
Where St. Peter awaits
Someone you know
Deep in your heart
Comes up to you and nudges
To guide you to the front
These angels’ wings
Brush your legs
You look to see
What could it be?
Yo! My God
It is so true
Your dog is in heaven
And now with you.
A bark and whine
A bark or two more
And St. Peter nods
To let you through the doors.
You see, your friend has to leave
Ahead of you
To gain the wings
And wait for you
Then they can describe
Your heart full of love
Your devotion to duty
To care for a little one.
St. Peter knows
Right from the start
If that precious creation
Knows you,
Then you are the one.
You enter and see a pasture divine
With grass as soft as velvet
And air sweet with joy
Your friend leads you
To a palette he prepared just for you
You see all the animals
Ramping around
Enjoying the fun
With their family and friends
Your dog angel lies down
His head in your lap
Content just to know
You are here with him now.
You awaken with laughter
And one furry friend
The nose is cold
And your chin slobbered wet.
You hear the horns blowing
And voices of praise
Singing sweetly
As you are nudged toward the throne
Your friend has brought you to the altar above
To receive your wings
And be his angel to again love.
You see now how important
To love one so small
And let them go first
So they can testify to God
Of your devotion
And love from the heart.
