    Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem as an assignment for english class in 9th grade. I've always liked it jsut because I grew up with a creek behind my house and it brings back a lot of good memories.

    Creek

    Running Clear beneath my feet

    Winding between rocks and grass

Slurping and dripping down a small waterfall.

    No legs but always moving,

    Until winter curses you solid.

    You rise with the rains,

And lower in time of drought.

Will time bless you with never ending flow?

Or will you someday run out?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
