    A Mother’s Loss

There’s a battle going on out here,

My son did not sign up for this,

He knew the pain it would cause,

I said good morning to him,

And made sure to him at night,

Then sent him out into the world,

    Education for his intellect,

The sweet smell of life I thought,

    When it was reported,

There was a conflict going on

One that took him away from me,

He lay there unable to respond

He lay there with his arms

    Unable to embrace me,

He lay there unable to see my tears,

    No one asked my participation,

To give my son so young,

He had not the chance to be the

    Promise of my life

    There’s a war out here

And the weapons of mass destruction took

    Him away from me,

But the one who use them

    Did not

    Will not

    Cannot,

    Understand the value of life.

I feel your pain! I don't know what is like to lose a child. I do know how it feels to watch your mother suffering from the lost of here first born, and only son! When will the madness end!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
