    Why

Why is it that the little girl had to die?
Why is it that her mother had to cry?
Why is it that noone was there to protect her?
Why is it that she had to feel the injure?
Why is it that she couldn't scream?
Why is it that she will never dream?
Why is it that she was all alone?
Why is it that noone was home?
Why is it that her mother invited him in?
Why is it that he was the one to win?
Why is it that the mother took drugs and passed out?
Why is it that she couldn't be there to shout?
Why is it that the phone was out of reach?
Why is it that he was able to live down the street?
Why is it that the little girl had to die?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
