Who Do I See
I look in the mirror but who do I see,
I don't even know the person looking back at me.
There's a stranger standing where I once stood,
I don't understand what happened; I wish I could.
I do what's expected, always as I'm told.
I never even questioned why life seems so cold.
I go through the motions day after day,
Saying what other people want me to say.
For so many years this wasn't hard to do,
But all that changed when I met you.
You looked into my heart and saw that my reflection wasn't me.
You opened my eyes and I don't like what I see.
You made me laugh, you made me cry,
but most of all, you made me ask "why?"
You never knew the effect you had,
and for that, I'm truly glad.
Because now you are gone; moved on with someone new
and I'm still here daydreaming of you.
I guess I should thank you for opening my eyes,
Maybe I will when my last tear drop dries.
