What If?

What If?

What if I told you everything?
Would you be ashamed?
What if I told you about my past?
Would you even be able to speak my name?
What if I told you what hurts me the most?
Would you be quick to blame?
What if I told you what I have done?
Can secrets really maim?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
