Wandering in the Night
A step in the darkened field she tookGlancing my way as I went by
Grazing dangerously close to death
She was graceful yet terribly shy
Hidden she thought by the night
Chancing the obstacles near
Nourishment needed to sustain her
For no one is feeding the deer
Eyes shine in the glare of the lights
Statuesque she dare not move
If she stays very still in the darkness
Her safety surely will prove
Swiftly she runs deep in the woods
Joining the family there
In the comfort of the herd
Protection is theirs to share
Swan
