    True Sight

    I say I see
    what few have seen
    with eyes that see
    across the sea.

    And so I say
    that I do see
    that I shall see
    the sea again.

    To truly see
    what you must see,
    one must see more
    than others see.

    And when you see
    what few have seen
    the sea will see
    you once again.

    Tell me you see
    what I say I see
    and tell me your eyes
    have always seen

    and have always seen
    what few ever see
    when they do look
    at other men.

    Do you see
    just how the sea,
    she looks at you,
    she wants to be seen?

    So do you look
    into the sea
    and see what she sees
    in the hearts of men?

    I see that the sea,
    she truly sees,
    and when you see,
    you'll truly see.

    You'll truly see
    the glamorous sea.
    And verily,
    you'll see it again.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
