THE WAY UPSTREAM.
Into the shallow stream I threw a pebbleRings formed as your water clear I did touble
To dear shelter ran a frightened shoal of fish
For fear of ending up in my yawning dish!
Then I began my hard climb upstream
With both hands I worked my way thru' the weeds
Wild insects invaded the sky as I 'pushed on' forward
I half covered my face from a few noisy bats
Rocky boulders rolled down splashing into the water
Into which one of my small bags was to fall later
I could well have fallen back with its weight in descent,
But continued in the green foliage holding on trees for ascent
The canopy above was too high to show the sun rays,
Festoons of creeping plants held back my every pace.
A left-turn brought my eyes fixed on a squirrel just aside,
Which, scared, made a long-jump on to a tree by my side.
Pictures of some wild butterflies, plants and bats taken,
The steep, slippery and dangerous downstream trip started.
My lesson learnt was to be sometimes arduous in life,
It doesn't always suffice just to be easy and calm!
