the vida broka

why doesn't death
    take us yet?
are we murmuring statues
    that only hear each other?
what is life, mamá?
    what is death, mamma?
how come we still
    don't feel?
is it something we're
    taught or learn?
why can't hapiness
    be real?

¿y d
ónde está
    Xavier?
he changed my mind
    along with the snow

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
