The train from Sonora
The Train from Sonora
Juarez came in from Chihuahua on Sunday
with Villa and his men on the train
They pointed their rifles at heaven and said
"Hey Gringo, it's good to see you again."
"but they've killed old Enrico, and they killed our Miguel,
and Maria don't know what she'll do.
They burned down the church, and they poisoned the well.
They old ones need shelter, the young ones need food"
"So go back to Texas," that's what Juarez told me
"My friend we don't need you no more.
We've got the train now and we'll soon take the palace
Go home now....Go on.....Muchas gracias, Senior."
But then came the army, they came out of nowhere
I watched as the village went down.
They took back the train,. and the blood...it ran freely
as it covered my maria's white gown.
I heard the rifle that killed colonel Diaz
I saw his children, they watched as he died.
I saw the Federales dancing and laughing,
shouting their victory at the hot dirty sky.
I loaded the dynamite under the trestle,
and I lit the fuse that would send them to hell.
I mounted my pony, and rode for the border
saying this one's for Maria and my old friend Miguel
The ladies all danced in the courtyard that day
and they sang for the ones who had died.
The Padre said "Children, we must change our ways"
As the guns made their thunder in the darkening sky.
But the train of Senora with it's guns and it's armor
was already on it's way to hell.
As it fell to the canyon I thought I heard laughter
from Enrico, Maria, and my old friend Miguel.
