The Ring
I looked at the diamond
You placed upon my hand,
And looked at how it was enclosed
Within a golden band.
I thought to myself
Of what it really means,
And how it came from your heart
A very complex thing.
The diamond had many, many cuts
One for every month we loved,
The brilliance of its shine
That had once been rough.
Then I looked closer
At the diamond set in gold,
And noticed it was a heart
For me to have and hold.
I didn’t see a single flaw
Not even one or two,
For when you love someone
You know your heart is true.
I looked at the setting
Which held it tightly in its place,
And saw a small set of hands
In which to keep it safe.
I looked at the band of gold
And stared at it for a while,
And saw that it was perfect
In size and depth and time.
There was not a scratch upon it
Nor a breaking point,
It only signified to me
The love that’s in your heart.
I took it off for just a time
And glanced inside the band,
And saw the words, “forever true”
Forever, love your man.
You placed upon my hand,
And looked at how it was enclosed
Within a golden band.
I thought to myself
Of what it really means,
And how it came from your heart
A very complex thing.
The diamond had many, many cuts
One for every month we loved,
The brilliance of its shine
That had once been rough.
Then I looked closer
At the diamond set in gold,
And noticed it was a heart

Not even one or two,
For when you love someone
You know your heart is true.

Forever, love your man.
