The Kind of Love

Poem Commentary

This poem was written for my mother in honor of Mother's Day '05. She is my greatest inspiration and my dearest friend.

The Kind of Love

A portion of the love God has
For the children He has made
Is given to each mother's heart
Where it will never fade.

The kind of love that walks through fire
To protect three Hebrew boys
Will laugh with you and dance with you
And share your hopes and joy's.

The kind of love that walks up hill
To an old and rugged cross
Will comfort you and cry with you
When you feel scared and lost.

And that same love that gave up life
So that you and I might live
Is the kind of love that looks through hurt
Ans says "father, please forgive".

Simply put, God is love
Tender, strong and true
The kind of love I've always known
Shown to me by you.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
