    Talk then Listen

I talk, words come out but you do not hear
I hope, that you will hear me, someday
you cry, wishing that I would listen
    why is this so hard?

We speak words, in anger and resignation
cut off like talking into a wall
I try, I speak, maybe this time you will hear
And so, it continues, talking and hoping

Hoping that this time, this time,
    You will hear me
As you talk, hoping that this time, if only
    I will hear you

It is time to listen, for me
I will try, this time, to hear
When you are done,  Iwill be here
    Listening still.  Hoping.
    That now, you will hear.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
