    Sweet Lies

    Sweet Lies

I was outdoors lying in the shade
    In my hammock sipping lemonade
The phone rang and wow was
    All I had to say.

Your lies, your lies, telling sweet
Lies .It will only get you temporary
    paradise.

    I know you thought that
Lying would help. Stop and evaluate
For just a minute just look
    at where you are now.

I am sad when I see your family
And friends leave and I hear you cry
Because I know that you have told yet
    Another lie.

Your lies your lies only lead to
Mistrust and despise. They will only
    Get you temporary paradise.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
