    Soloman

    Soloman

The first time I seen your smile

I knew I would walk a thousand miles

You said, “Hello” to me that day

I only stayed for a while

I had to go and make a change in my life

Cause I knew things weren’t meant to be, no

I know, I gotta do what I can

    That’s why I’m a soloman

The first time I seen your eyes

Blew me away, what a sweet surprise

I said to you girl, “Babe I love ya so”

I dig the way you kept a smile in disguise

I let you know I had to go away that night

I guess I knew every day, lord

I meant, I gotta do what I can

    That’s why I’m a soloman... yeah

You said to me, “Goodbye” that day

I know you tried to save my soul anyway

I said to you babe, “I’m not gonna follow you”

Ya lost that smile, then turned away

I’ve gotta do what I can with my life

I’ve gotta be the best I can, yeah

I’ve gotta, I’ve gotta do it baby; gotta be who I say

    I’m gonna be a soloman

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
