Rain, Rain….Go away

Rain, Rain….Go away

I want to go outside today, but the windows hold me in.
I look outside at everything…I’m reminded of my sin.
I didn’t want to be there – God knows this is right.
As a child I trusted him; I didn’t even fight.
Still, today I remember this….I hold it deep within.
I look outside at everything; I’m reminded of my sin.
People say it wasn’t my fault – I know that they are right.
I should open the door and go on out….this wrong I have to fight.
My boys are growing up, see, and it isn’t fair at all
To keep them in….real close to me – protect them from a fall.
God, help me through the window now and see far past the pain.
Hold my hand as I take a step outside, helping my boys through the rain.

I love the ambiguity (what was the sin, who betrayed etc.)

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
