Biography

My name is Darlene and I am the mother of five children. My life is probably similar to any typical American mother. I started writing poetry as a teenager, little depressing poems of life and love. Then when I had my first child I said to myself every time something unbelievably funny happened I have to write this down. But just putting it on paper in detail was not enough to make me believe it was exciting, so I wrote poems explaining what happened and it made the difference in the telling of our story. So now I document every step of our lives with poetry.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
