Parenthood
As parents we work hard to provide and protect our family.
But then it comes the time that our children grow up and start
to separating from the nest.
Somewhere alone the path, we become the enemy and the one with
less knowledge and cause all the problems in their lives.
When did we detour?
I don't remember separating alone this highway we call GROWING UP.
I recall when we travel down Infancy Lane, I was there 24/7 to protect
and care for every need.
Then we made the right to Toddler Lane, and I remember countless
hours of singing ABC's, 123's, and listening to Barney
over and over again.
As our journey continues, we ended up on Preteen Street.
That's where we stopped and I encourage you to make friends and
enjoy life.
Then we stopped on Teenager Lane, and we detour a couple of times,
because of all the road blocks on long the way.
All the arguments of types of friends you had accepted into your life,
the type of clothes you chose to wear the homework assignments
that were incomplete and grades started to drop.
As we continue our travel on Teenager Lane, that's when we
became separated.
My navigation skills were not up to par,
because you thought the road map that brought us this far
was outdated
and that my knowledge was obsolete
and your friends had all the faster and right directions.
I decided to give you the keys to your brand new life
with blessings
and told you if you ever get lost alone the way to call.
You called a couple of times and
I redirected you back to the main highway Home.
But our travel started growing more and more apart
and you have taken the fast lane to Adult Road.
My engine is old, my body is worn,
and my tires don't have much life left.
Each time that you have called for road assistance
I have started up my old heart to come and wipe away those tears
from all the hurt and pain that you are suffering.
My journey may take a while to reach your heart,
but I will be there.
I have weathered many storms
and will continue to travel to where ever you are
to make sure that you are safe from harm.
Always remember to buckle up
as you travel through the highways of Life Lessons
and don’t ever forget the route back home
that will bring you back to Parent’s Avenue.
But then it comes the time that our children grow up and start
to separating from the nest.
Somewhere alone the path, we become the enemy and the one with
