    Poem Commentary

This is a tribute to two soldier's in my boyfriends' unit who lost their lives in Iraq.

    Our Brothers In Arms

We don't understand why you two had to leave us,
its tearing us a part inside.
You left behind friends and family
who are still grieving after two long years!
Your brothers in arms would give anything to have you back,
but we know it's not possible.
You died for your country, a war thats gone on for way to long,
we'd give anything to have our brothers here beside us again.
It's not the same anymore, we all miss your jokes and your hearty laughs.
We hear all the time that it'll get easier,
but we don't see how that's possible.
The pain hurts too much, a painful gnawing ache in our hearts,
the only way to make it right is for you guys to come home.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
