Never Forgotten
We have been thinking of you again. Remembering a box of letters from a very long time ago. Remembering youth as a timid friend and as an unsuspecting victim. And love has been a pale bird in constant flight. Never truly touching, only soaring through a darkened sky. But it still manages to harm just enough.
But the heart remains gentle and fragile. Quietly waiting in the confusion. Feeling the compassion, the regret. Never truly knowing but always trying.
And you, in your violence, the pain that drives you on. The many ways to feel the hurting. The many years you too have spent alone. And you never questioned why.
Chocolate eyes as cold as steel. Emotionless in the timely gaze, except in moments, and then, only then a hint of something. And we have always known as we have always loved.
But love is not enough, for we must protect what little is left. What little still remains without the bitterness, without such damage, before nothing remains.
A little light burns for you from the distance perhaps because we share with you the pain. We suffer along side you as it has always been. We stand alone, but you are never forgotten.
