    Milldam

    The granite channel
    smoothed by years of water
is dry and filled with leaves.

    The water wheel slumps.
    The great axle is split
    with its iron braces rusting.

    The rhythm of Chickadees
    percolates from the brush.
    Soft autumn settles down.
