Just as a Sweet Child

Just as a Sweet Child

Just as a sweet child,
Is gentle like a dove,
Whose temperament is mild;
So therefore, walk in love.

Just as a sweet child,
Avoids the darkness of night,
The company of wild;
So therefore, walk in light.

Just as a sweet child,
Looks towards God’s Kingdom,
Lets sin be defiled;
So therefore, walk in wisdom.

Just as a sweet child,
Clings to his community,
Where on peace is piled;
So therefore, walk in unity.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
