It rains an aweful lot here
A soldier went away to war and wrote home to his mom
There’s so much to see here, seen so much since I’ve been gone
It rains an awful lot here mom
It comes down night and day
And I’m afraid there’s not much going on
Wish I had more to say
It wasn’t what he had written it was what he didn’t write
Somehow a mother always knows when her son isn’t right
My boy, I am so proud of you since you became a man
But I know that something must be wrong, tell me if you can
Today I saw a pretty bird
Its feathers were so bright
But it turned out to be noisy
And kept us up all night
Yesterday a storm blew in
I wish the skies would clear
Nothing else for me to report
It sure rains an awful lot here
Son tell me what is going on you could always talk to me
You are starting to scare your mother, how bad could it be
He answered
Yesterday I killed a man before he could kill me
He is in my dreams, mom he’s all that I can see
Billy went crazy and took his own life
A man in Kentucky had stolen his wife
David went home to work on his farm
Driving a tractor with only one arm
Wish there was something I could say to make it very clear
I can’t wait to get home, Mom, it is a nightmare here
It took a while before his mom wrote back
Said his father had a heart attack
Your father had a rough time but now he’s feeling better
He really took it hard after reading your last letter
The soldier wrote his mother
Later on that night
He knew he had a duty
To make her feel alright
There is nothing else to report
Let me make it very clear
It’s very uneventful
It sure rains a whole lot here
It sure rains a whole lot here
