Insomnia
Bellied eyes and rattling handles,
Why am I awake at this God-forsaken hour.
In a cold box, open the window,
It makes no difference in here.
Familiar notes but distant tunes,
Causing pain in the side of my head,
Levels low, and screen still glows,
Burning the back of my eyes.
Laying naked or fully clothed,
Turn my headrest over again,
Feel the chill run down my spine,
Do it again now only more time.
Count the sheep, they’re mocking too,
Chasing me through mazes in my mind,
Ninety minutes, no whistle blows,
Ending these one man shows.
Stars go out, oh torment of love,
No answers coming from God above,
Known the rules, I would have tried,
I lost before I even started.
