IN THIS BOX I HOLD CHILE

IN THIS BOX I HOLD CHILE

In this box I hold Chile…
A grain of sand from my distant land
Aroma from the salty waters of the Pacific sea.
A crisp breeze from the Andean peaks.

In this box I hold Chile…
The voices of those called my family.
A suffering I can no longer remember.
A distant thought that will last forever.
An empty space I shall never fill.

In this box I hold Chile…
    An evaporated tear.
    A story with much valor.
A smile lost, with time and pain,
For a life I will never regain.

In this box I hold Chile…
    A treasured memory,
buried In the corners of my childhood heart.
    In this box.

I really liked this. The repeating of the first line with an added facet of thought. Very pensive and stubbornly resolute. Thanks!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
