    I Wish I Were

    Sometimes I wish
    I were made of stone
So I wasnt born with a heart
    To have feelings
    Of being all alone
    Sometimes I wish
    I were made of slate
So I wasnt born with heart
To have feelings of jealousy or hate
    Sometimes I wish
    I were made of gold
So I wasnt born with a heart
To have feelings of growing old
    Sometimes I wish
    I were made of dirt
So I wasnt born with a heart
To have feelings of being hurt
But I was born with a heart
And sometimes I do have these
    Feelings inside
Its when I use my heart to feel
    LOVE
    That these negative emotions subside

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
