    I Miss You

I should've given you a reason to care
I should've tried harder to keep you around
Now, we both have a terrible burden to bear
With no way to keep our worlds from crashing down

You told me that this time would go by fast
That you'd be home before I even knew you were gone
But every new day seems longer than the last
And all I have are memories to keep me hanging on

I’ve never had to feel like this before
This kind of pain is all new to me
There are times when I feel I can’t do this anymore
But then, I close my eyes, and your face is all I see

I know that you write me letters everyday
But what I need is to feel your touch
If you were here, you could wipe all my tears away
But then, I guess I wouldn’t be crying this much

I cry because I miss you
And there’s nothing I can do that will change the fact
This is just something I can’t seem to get used to
I’d give anything just to have you back

All I want is to have you by my side
And for things to go back to the way they were
Cause when you went away, a piece of me died
And that’s one pain I couldn’t prepare to endure

I should’ve taken the time to show you how I feel
Then maybe, we wouldn’t be where we are
There would be no painful wounds to heal
And no broken memories to leave a scar

I know it’s too late to change things now
But I can learn from this mistake I’ve made
So consider this my solemn vow
Cause I’ll never again leave a single moment to trade!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
