I love you, I hate you

    I love you
    I hate you
I want you near, I want you away

you made me laugh only to cry
I was high above and now I am far down below
    all because you couldn't decide
I was strong but you made me weak
I'm stronger now as well as weaker
the tears I cried I cant even begin to count
all this over you, a single person, out of the million I have met
    What is it about you?!
Why must all my thoughts through the day and night be concentrated on you.
    I can't sleep, I can't eat
Nothing is right because everything feels wrong.
If you came back into my life things would remain as they are,
    not as they were before.

    And That's why
    I love you
    I hate you
I want you near I want you away
I need something to grasp and it isn't you
All I can do is pretend to lift my head to the sky
How did this become the way it did
When did I go wrong and off track truly believing you were the one?
Something help me now that I have fallen to the ground
Give me wings on my back as well as on my mind so I can be free from you all the time You are my heaven as well as my hell

    I love you
    I hate you
I want you near I want you away

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
