    Hamburger

    I thought of you
    While stirring
    Hamburger meat
    The sizzle of memories
    Audible in my mind

    Sadness welled from
    A place of mystery
    And overwhelmed my
    Dejected heart

    I took a step back
    From ground cow
    Lest my tears
    Mingled with supper tonight

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
