RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

I am not clear on whom or what constitutes the rank of a “founding member”. I have been a member of OP since December 8th 2008 just weeks after this site launched and went public in November. I was in the first wave of members to sign in, and with that being said, I do not consider myself a “founding member”. I am simply a member that is one part of a poetry community.
The way I see it, the founding members are the people who’ve created and own this WEB Site.
Will they be a part of this “founding members” meeting?

The rules are the same for every community poetry Web site:
Post poems, comment/critique the poems of the other members, start some interesting Forums, be kind to the other members, and be happy that you are here.

My feeling is: If anyone (outside of the owners) should be laying out the "new rules", it would be the members who have stayed on after so many members (including me) jumped ship and went into self-exile on other poetry sites during the OP Mayhem of 2010. For the past few years, these stay-behind, dedicated OP members have kept this site alive and warm, while the rest of us left in a huff because of the TROLL and Dictator activity that caused a negative, harsh atmosphere to prevail and to sour this pleasing place. These dedicated members stayed and kept OP lit up. Their activity never stopped, and I am sure that these die-hard members are too humble to say that they are in a position to dictate, or to carve dogma into tablets for other members to abide by. In the three-year absence of the deserted members, this site has been running smoothly. So, with this being a fact, why would any returning deserters (including me) think that this healthy Poetry Site needs dictation in the manner of "new rules" and regulations, parameters or dogma?

Those of us coming out of exile and returning to OP may want to do it quietly and with humbleness, and forget about the managerial attitude, and to forget about the TROLLS and their dirty work in having multiple screen names to use as compound attacks on poets, their poems, and their characters. We must forget and forgive.

I am returning for a few reasons:
1. The TROLLS and Dictators appear to be gone.
2. My beloved site, 21st Century Poets.com, has been poisoned by SPAM and is really hurting
(I can only hope for its return to full health).
3. I have always loved the unique layout and intuitive nature of OP.
4. I have many friends here who, over the past two years of my absence, have repeatedly asked me
to come back.

To my dear friends whom never stopped encouraging me to return: I am here and looking forward to reading and commenting on your beautiful work.

To all members: If the TROLLS and/or Dictators resurface simply ignore them and/or block them from your page. By now we have learned from dealing with negative, insecure, envious people on other sites to not respond to their need to bring you down to their level of unhappiness. This happened to me a few times in a Facebook poetry group, my work was repeatedly slammed by a couple of unhappy writers. I ignored them; they went away.

Post poems, comment/critique the poems of the other members, start some interesting Forums, be kind to the other members, and be happy that you are here.

As for the TROLL created OP Mayhem of 2010, which was loaded with assumptions, accusations, and insolence, (in which I got sucked into) I want to apologize to the OP owners and any members that I may have offended. I apologize. Please, forgive me.

For Madelyn: Just before your departure from OP, you left a beautifully written heartfelt comment on my profile page. I never got to thank you for this message. Thank you.

Looking forward,
dah

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

Im with you on that Dah.. I was going to message you on FB today to have you included, because you were one of the first! One of the first poets I met on here actually. I came in '09. March, I think.
I would have sent you a regular invitation thingy.. but it would only let me send to people on my friend list, I tried to though.. and I couldn't get it to 'share' either.
Of course we need you to here on wed night 9central.. to discuss the very issues you just proposed.

-No dictatorship.. only all of us, working as a group through diffrences to create harmony amoungst ourselves and our diversities! Peace and love through poetry.
love,
'Maddi'

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

--- @ dah..
And the way I see it.. the 'founding' members are not the owners of this site, but are the poets who gave this site it's heartbeat! That's us. We were the breath of OP.. we were the modern society of an ancient art form.. we are the strange and unusual..lol,, the unique, and odd! We are original.. we are poetry.. we ARE this site, and as you can see by what happened when we left- this site cannot 'live' without it's 'founders'..

It's a pleasure George, dah and Maddi to hear your voices of reason, diplomacy, humble praises to the highest poetics, and your fickle, flamboyant and omniscient wisdom. Yes it's all true...smile

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

I've been here for quite sometime now. I always feel here at home. Sometimes I stay away from writing but still visit, read, comment on poetry n enjoy it. I had several health issues which at times keep me away too but always end up coming back. This last time I came to find many gone. I went looking for them n I couldn't stay in the other poetry sites. None to me are the same. I'm just glad many of you have decided to come back. Hugs wink

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

@poett -same here. I started wanting to round the old gang back up and do this in Oct.- but knew I needed some time to figure it out- I talked to John about it, and he wanted to wait until his book was finished in 6mos. because he is so busy with it, but I told him I was going to try and gather everyone up and launch the plan after the new year.. because waiting another 6mos. would just kill me! lol. I miss you all so very much, and I miss sharing our work, and reading you all!! .. ok , here it is- I love you guys!! kiss

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

Hi!!! So glad to see my beautiful poetry family gathering! Hope the others get in soon.. I think we should just jump right in. I have given much thought to the rules we set. Yes, i think as a community we need to establish a code of conduct we all agree with- as the administration here is non-existant, and a lack of social respect is why I left mainly.. anybody want to throw in some ideas to keep this place running peacfully?

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

My first must have rule is that - Poets respect our religious/ and spiritual diffrences! These diffrences are what makes us unique- and I am going to set the boundry that NO poet should have the right to come on another poets page -poem- and attack their belief. This is not a site about religious views, this is a site about art, and all comments should pretain to the art, or the artist. Not their personal faith.

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

I am assuming I am here too late as it is 10:30 EST. But just wanted to say hi, welcome back. I believe if a positive aura surrounds us, all will be good. Art is subjective and everyone has preferred genres and opinions about what they like to write. Respect is key when critiquing.

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

I agree.. and the way some critique seems to be like an attack, or personal! And sometimes.. it is, unfortunately!! I think we handle delicate situations like feeling insulted by either a 'thank you' to the commentor.. or a simple 'delete'.

RE: OP FAMILY; First Meeting

Hi Tierra, Hi Kelly- hugz!!! and thanks for coming- what kind of ideas do you guys have in mind for our 'new world' -lol.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
