Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

Last year at this time the Original Poetry Vol. 1
was the talk and the excitement around town.

Has anybody seen or heard from Volume. 2?

RE: Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

They are looking for a professional publisher, to create, and market the book.

So that means we may have a new coach, well that does to me.

Not new owners, not a new Papa ( God Forbid), but a new package maker.

I asked Papa last week.

And Volume 1 hasnt done well. so in my opinion the winners of Volume 2,
need to do more promotion if they want the book to sell, if not hey,
just win the contest, and abandon the site, like the most from Volume 1.

I told them that this site is a toddler, we are learning to walk.
We are poets not publishers, and marketeers.

But I have given all of my ideas, so people are more involved, and happy here.

anyways Happy Holidays

RE: Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

The retail price on Vol. 1—$19.95—
has created its own failure.

I asked my 14 year-old daughter what she thought
the price of Vol. 1 should be—without looking at the marked price
—she said: $9.95.

When she saw the price she said: I would never pay that much
for such a thin book of unknown poets.

She is a "professional shopper" who knows what a deal is or isn't.

RE: Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

Yes, I agree, these times are hard for all of us.
Maybe buy one get one free, for a short period.
If I had the funds, I'd buy a 1,000, of Vol1 and two
and every other poets book that Im friends with, and pass them out
to people or busineses that would add fuel to fire,
But one day it will come, where I can do more.

We are working on an idea, that may solve some problems.

RE: Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

I also believe that if 500,000 members of OP
would sign up on the history channel, and post
why they like poetry, and why poetry is in there life.
Further more what Poets from the past, they'd like
to see, and hear about in an hour weekly show.
This may spark the world to see what Poets here
are alive and well.

So here's the link pass it on

When I originally saw the price I said to myself that seemed a bit steep for a book of that sorts but what do I know.

There are solutions posted on this site.
But it's up to all of us to pull up our sleeves, and get dirty.

RE: Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

It may be an idea to look to buy a print shop, that has machines that print books.
I am sure there is one for sale in America, and Im sure the locals there need work.

RE: Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

TheCross just sent me a link. very Interesting for all to read.
Changing times indeed, but still I believe people do want
a hands on book, I know I do, but there is a new generation, so
its very hard to tell what to do.
But I still believe in all of us, so do your thing.

RE: Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

Ok- so if the price is the issue, the here's a genius idea.. go on the Amazon account and lower it! If OP feels the amped price is necessary to pay out the royalties, at this stage that's no longer the issue, since none of the Vol.1 winners have gotten paid yet. Not to mention that if our poetry is the bread and butter behind the site/ and book sales- then as a community we should have a stronger voice in descisions that are made to the site. There is odviously a situation happening here, and I hate to be the one to say this- but to all of us who are counting on the recognition we have built with OP thro' the years, not being informed on anything reguarding vol 1, and vol.2 being basically- neglected is somewhat embarressing.to those of us who consider ourselves serious writers- amature or not. If the entire publishing the winners idea is a bust- then we need to be given the benefit of the doubt that we are not idiots to try and come together with a marketing strategy that will promote the books- not blow the issue off and start football sites. How about focusing on the writers who work their ass off, writing and donating ideas and threads. The country might be in a recession- but my kid just bought a thirt dollar book about World of Warcraft characters- so the economy is still circulating with an abundance of needless exspesses for entertainment..the only reason the books a flop is because the ball is being dropped.-maybe we need more players to juggle this thing..confusedconfused

Yah, this was a mistake for sure. I remember when they asked me my opinion, it sounded pretty good. I myself was use to buying technical books at $90/each.

Clearly we're not book pros, and self publishing the book may have been a mistake. Although I don't know if we could have picked up a publisher. Things were pretty bad, and still are, with the print media economy. Borders even appears to be heading out of business.

I did suggest last week that we drop the price to $9.95, but its out of my hands.

As for Vol 2. I don't have a time frame on that. There should be something coming from the higher ups on it in the coming days/weeks. Right now with Christmas, things are a little hectic. People taking time off, etc.

RE: Original Poetry Antholgy Vol 2

I want to say that what I'm reading in this forum is not very uplifting. I am a competitor. I want to win no matter what the game -- whether it be a game of Chess, or a game of Go Fish. If there is no competition among us poets, then the whole idea of this poet-of-the-week contest, is all for naught. Why bother putting one's poetry here if not to have them read, and hopefully win the contest so we can appear in a book of poetry. One may as well take their poems to a publisher and have them perused by buyers of the book. Does anyone really believe that Edgar Alan Poe wrote poetry with the intention of not having them published and earn him financial rewards ? Let's not be naïve about it…..99% of us would like to earn some extra income from our work....

We are going to shake the website, drain the water, and see if there's any fish floopin. But it will take all of us to do it.

The problem is jeolousy, people wanting a free ride.
Everyone who posts on this site.should
buy a book out of respect of poetry, and the site.
Regardless of who won.
We are just going to have to stick together through thick and thin,
and find ways to keep people from not leaving, without ass kissing.
Poets post here for a reason, because they want to live on, so we need
find ways to make sure that happens.

15 winners from Vol 1 are holding pitch forks, tearing off the roof, while the
others, are on the ground saying its to hot, we want water, we didnt know this
was work. we want our checks, we want to go home.

welcome to the new world of poetry.

did i read somewhere that winning here was a winning lotto ticket, lol
ya right.

We are going to have to all hang in there, here....

Gogant says: "Let's not be naïve about it…..99% of us would like to earn some extra income from our work...."

Dah says: If you are a poet you better have a damn good day job. Lets not be naive enough to believe that poets pay the bills by publishing poetry or have extra income from writing poetry. I happen to have a day job that I enjoy. kiss

I just want a copy of Volume 2, forget the royalties.cool smile

I bought my copy of the anthology the very week it was released by the publisher, mainly because I recognize that a lot of "labour of love" and sweat and long nights and pains had gone into producing the antholog, More than all, a strong feeling of loyalty to the site and to all my fellow poets urged me to purchase.
Loyalty, Tolerance, justice, struggle, sacrifice and disaffection denote the growth and success of any organization. I know OP members, by name, including myself, who from time to time, have been frustrated or disgruntled enough to want to leave this site. We have loyally remained aboard, and, today, we are proud that the site is one of the most vibrant on the Internet. The site is not perfect, but perfection is never an airtight, ready-made package. It has to be sought by loyalty, faith and sacrifice. If I want a thing, I go for it. " To retreat is to defeat."
I strongly maintain that all OP Friends exercise "their franchise" of speaking-out, and advocating what seems democratically best for all involved, but I do not support secession.
