You’ve got to visit every store. Or the owners will be sore. How about that? Loud speakers will soon be blaring “Merry Christmas, to all good cheer!” Coloued lights brightly glittering, Christmas trees with balloons gleaming, Lots of carols hearing, friendly greetings, You ‘ve got to bring great sales, Cash registers joyful busily ringing, How about that? Will you wear that old red suit again? It seems to me threadbare , needs cleaning. You’re evergreen, though countless winters seen, Why not wear a new green suit instead? Your beard ought to be even greyer Strained by the current recession stress, Ought to be less merriment in your eye, How about that? Your reindeers are now out of fashion, You can’t use them to go to Afghanistan To warm cold soldiers’ hearts. You need a modern helicopter And an armoured motor car. There are some hostile fellow in Iraq, Who cares not that you bring good cheer, Unlike Xmas fireworks and balloons, They’ll blow you up for sure. How about that? No longer boys want little rubber toys, That you shove in hung-up socks. Oh no! You’ve got to give them computers and such, Or they’ll tell you keep your stuff, How about that? Johnny who lives a squatter in a shack, No longer wants to beg or steal; He wants an I-pod and a clarinet, Now that he has religion. His sister wants a new lover , The old one he up and left, Took with him her cellular phone, When she said you’d soon be coming, And she wants her lamah to sport, He said she wants everything, You ought to keep her for yourself, Since he got no money nor job.. How about that? They want no wind-up toy. Everbody is going electronic. With the world getting bigger and wider; More bags of gifts are in demand; As far as I know, and others know too, You ain’t got a Delivery Company. My dad needs work, I appeal to you, He knows how to fly aeroplanes. He bombed Iran and Bagdad, And he doesn’t mind wearing a red suit. Why not give my daddy, the job To be your assistant, your right hand man? How about that? Jock is a guy not on your list last year. About him you seemed to have forgot., Life is slow at his repair shop ; There gather the youth from the ghetto To talk politics, sports and smoke pot. It’s because they have nothing else to do. Life is hard and that is that, As bad as In New Orleans and Haiti. Baby –mother needs perridge and pampas, Christmas is coming , Santa Claus , How about that? My cousin , Kate, is crying her heart out, Her schoolmates are going to Mexico, Led by her pretty Spanish teacher. Said granpa he ain’t got no money Even to buy her a new frock. He lost all he earned in a gambling den, And drank what a friend loaned him. Santa Claus, you got to make her uncle pay Or some rich lady to have mercy, Or Katy shall miss the trip of her life To habla with the Spanish señores, How about that? Pretty little girls in beautiful dresses. Smart little boys in ironed pants and shirts . Girl’s eyes are sparkling like the jewels in their ears, The lips of boys pert as their shiny shoes. Ice-cream , cake and favours in abundance, Screams of joy , surprises and excitement, While their parents proudly look on, And gossip with high voices and laughter . “Here comes Santa,” they will eagerly cry. Have you forgotten children less favoured, In huts and hovels and humble homes playing? How is that? You can’t climb down chimneys anymore; There ain’t many left to climb, in fact. You won’t want to break down doors. You need an expert to unlock locks. My father’s friend he knows the works, But soon he will be on the street, On his house they shall soon foreclose. He is able to gain secret entrance, And he is too long unemployed. How about that? Santa Claus, I want so many things, I am ashamed to bother to ask. I got to find work by the grace of God, I got to have a Christmas fling! If you can make that happen, I will write you a Christmas reggae song, How about that? Santa Claus, I don’t wish the world to forget, That you come around once a year; You are a jolly good Christmas game, The trick adults on children play To feed them on merry fantasy. But I wish you were here every day To teach the world generosity. We must preserve the legend of your name To drive away doubts , sorrows and fears . And expectations keep alive To see another Merry Christmas. How about that? Christmas comes but once a year, Brings balloons, pepper lights and tinsel, To deck ourselves with glittering cheer, Carols and the Christmas treat. Come, Santa , Come again, With or without your reindeer! How about that? (Written by Cousinsoren, 2010) Last edited by cousinsoren 12-15-2010 at 06:54:38 PM |

RE: Calling All Poets (Christmas Poems)asha... john has asked if i would help do the cover for the book and i would be more than happy to... to put together a rough draft i will need to know the title, what size you want it (ie... the POB book was 8"x10") and perhaps some idea of what you want the cover too look like... or i can just brainstorm and come up with something on my own |

And Asha, your letter, was fantastic to the Toys for Tots org. Ok maybe Papa can add this in the Op's newsletter, so Poets know about it. And to all we will select three Poets to determine the books entries.. WS Thank you John, just doing my part. I am glad you approve of the letter I sent.....I will have some help from here at home that is good at working with these things...... and thanks to you Dano for agreeing to be part of this wonderful idea for Christmas to help kids........as for the book cover and size I will talk to John and see what he thinks..........I love the size of the POB book you did, so if you want we can start with that size......Also as this is a Christmas book and it is going to help kids and because Christmas is mostly for the kids, I think a cover design that will reflect a kids eye view of Christmas would be great.......Maybe like capturing the moment through a child's eyes of Christmas morning when they come downstairs and discover tons of presents under a tree..........or maybe use something to reflect and even greater Christmas gift like a parent coming home from the war and hugging their precious child.......maybe do it in a cartoon theme like looking through a child's eyes.......so what do ya think..........send us whatever you come up with to start and see how it goes.......I am sure this will be an easy job for you.....grinsss......thanks all..love asha Last edited by ApaqRasgirl 12-01-2010 at 12:22:02 PM |

RE: RE: Calling All Poets (Christmas Poems)Quote: Originally Posted by WordSlinger Asha I am seeing Christmas Poems popping on OP, like a storm. Can you get some one to help you? This is a thread weave of last years poems I collected. 2009 OPs Christmas Poems http://www.originalpoetry.com/forum/view/topic/topic_id/2785 I will do what I can.....and ask around for someone to help but so far it's not that big....I will copy and paste all entries to a doc and after the entries have been selected I will edit the doc and send it your way.........as far as the older poems go, I will peek through them and gather a few but I think we should not go back to far as there are lots of Christmas poems being posted everyday for this years holiday. But I will gather all I can, my part is really not that hard. The hard part will be on the team selected to vote on the entries, after that I will edit the doc leaving the selected entries in and send it. This will be loads of fun...... To make this easier I have posted both here and in the other Christmas thread for those wishing to donate their poem to post it here in this thread and email me their post or link as well.....We will get this going and done........love asha |

RE: Calling All Poets (Christmas Poems)What Christmas Is All About By Kevin Mooney Anticipation begins and gradually kicks in, While shopping days wane and disappear. Excitement blends in and slowly transcends, As tradition and good tidings reappear. Children grow restless, as school days dwindle, Their lists continue to grow. Moms and Dads spend and find ways to rekindle, The holiday spirit they know. Houses are decorated inside and out, Trees find new ways to glisten. Mistletoe hangs and stories come out, As eager ears strain to listen. December days mount, while parents recount, Past memories of gifts and toys. Yuletide ghosts greet the heavenly host, Through time spent together, love and joy. These days it seems, not everyones' dreams, Are packaged and adorned with bows. Those bereft means go to extremes, Just to have food, shelter and warm clothes. This winter's eve, try to conceive, Of those with no gifts to give out. Help children believe, to give is to receive, It's what Christmas is all about. Copyright © December 2009 Kevin Mooney Last edited by kmooney 12-01-2010 at 11:42:39 PM |

RE: Calling All Poets (Christmas Poems)lol, Dano this cover is alive, brilliant, so a snowball fight for the back, with a child with a book in hand, that says poetry today would be to me, Hilarious, |

RE: Calling All Poets (Christmas Poems)Santa Claus By Kevin Mooney There lives this jolly old sole, People say lives at the north pole. He creates toys, For good girls and boys, Is revered by those young and old. Known for his red suit and sash, Large frame, white beard and mustache, A big round belly, That shakes like jelly, When something makes him laugh. Some think he's blessed with great wealth, Has magical reindeer and elves. Children believe, On Christmas eve, He delivers gifts all by himself. Traveling the world in a sled, He arrives when kids are in bed. Slips into the house, As quiet as a mouse, While dreams dance around in young heads. With a team of 8 tiny reindeer, He delivers hope and good cheer, A source of delight, On one special night, That comes the same time every year. The perfect lap sitting host, Who never gets angry or boasts. Everyone knows, His ho ho ho's, A laugh that distinguishes him most. The image of a King well fed, A Wiseman all dressed up in red. A comical gnome, With a snow covered home, A character commercially bred. Whether he actually exists, Is the source of hoax or myth, To those that believe, He's a pleasant reprieve, The perfect Father Christmas. RE: Calling All Poets (Christmas Poems)From Manger To Cross By Kevin Mooney Once upon a time, many years ago, A very special child was received. He was born in a manger with no place to go, His future and purpose preconceived. The birth was foretold, by generations old, In books and psalms from afar. Those that bore witness had come to behold, A miracle proclaimed by a star. Man's future lay, swaddled in hay, His mission, transgressions to bear. Surrounded by animals, shepherds and Kings, With good tidings and gifts brought to share. Do you suppose that there were those, That knew who this child would soon be? The living word, the one that arose, Sent here to save you and me. That night in a stable, a child proved able, To inspire all nations to pray. A story was cast, one sure to last, It was proclaimed a glorious day. Years went past but few people asked, What became of that fortunate Son? A man came forth and performed great tasks, That inspired and astounded everyone. As it turned out, many learned about, His ability to heal and foresee. His fan base grew and many soon knew, That this was the child of prophecies. He taught how to give, to love and forgive, Performed a miracle or two. He set an example for people to live, Through suffrage, abuse and solitude. One day a friend, one loyal to the end, Pointed him out in a crowd. Those that he served had forsaken him, Admonished and cursed him out loud. He was sentenced die, for no reason why, He carried his burden upon his back. His head was adorned with a crown of thorns, He never complained of what he lacked. He struggled at times, but managed to climb, The hill where his cruel fate had led. He was nailed and tied for committing no crime, People watched as his hands and feet bled. They lifted him there, up into the air, On a cross firmly fixed in the ground. All he could bear was to suffer and stare, As onlookers gathered all around. Many souls left, bereaved and bereft, Unable to watch or comprehend, Those that stayed, silently prayed, That his suffering would eventually end. When his time came, he offered no blame, He asked only his Father forgive. "They knew not their sins or where to begin, To atone for the lives that they live". As he died, all mankind cried, At that moment it began to sink in. This was that child that years ago lie, Swaddled with the burden of sin. That hallowed day, far, far, away, On the eve of man's eternal cost. Was when it began, the first Christmas day, Jesus journey from manger to cross. In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
