RE: Getting Discouraged with OPjulieannetx and other new members......the bottom line is this.......do not get caught up in the comments on your poetry being what this is all about....comments are very cool......its nice to know your words have reached out and touched a stranger.....that someone relates. that being said you can't rate the quality of your own poetry or your experience here on comments alone......if you want comments really read the works of other poets and IF you find something you wish to comment about......then leave a real heartfelt comment that lets the writer know you read his/her poem and really felt it man. i guess what i'm trying to say comment well.....dont leave half assed comments just to get one back.....and if the poem did nothing for you then don't leave one at all......the way i got known on the sight is if i found a poet whom i related to their work......i would try to read all they have written and leave comments on the poems i loved the best...the ones i related to the most.......its all about if i can relate to the poem for me not if i think its well written because there are some talented writers on here that i don't relate to at all....thats not to say they are not gifted writers....they are......i just don't get them for whatever reason.......and thats my bad not theirs.........anyway as usual i'm getting off topic....if want to become a part of the site....and its a special rewarding place in cyber space.......then you have to do a lot of reading. when you find someone who speaks to you let them know by reading most if not all of their work........if you leave numerous comment on a poet you like....if they are active they will respond and if they don't then maybe they don't have time or they just aren't that into you and if that is the case so be it......if you want comments.....read read read and read some more and comment on what moves you.........give it time........it will happen.....or you can always start a fight in the forums with a popular poet and get everyone talking about you.......and if you win the fight.....you are in....lol just kidding. good luck to you and good writing. RE: RE: Getting Discouraged with OP/ JADEDZAZZEL"S WISDOMWISDOM, MY Dear! Wisdom in all that you are saying here. I hope all who are discouraged will read you carefully and rethink. I am not boasting, but I have never, never been disilluiosned with OP. Either something is wrong with me, or there is something strikingly right and alluring about OP. Quote:

Bear......i was never in the popular clique.......not in high school.....not at work.....not when i was younger in the club scene.....maybe i was in the drug scene.....but thank you i am honored to be considered one of OPs.....inner circle........that being said we should all be aware that being considered part of that gives us a certain clout.....and they way to keep OP growing and evolving to its full potential is to make it a point to read new members and bring them into that circle as well.....i agree with maddie....if they have ink for blood and write to live as if words were air and water.....then by all means........welcome.......the circle is open....come on in......maybe pops can create a page where new members are listed so we can make it point to send out the welcome wagon. RE: RE: Getting Discouraged with OP/ COUSINSOREN"S REPLYWISDOM, Standing Bear! WiSDOM! You have spoken well in defence of OP. Probably a Guide Book should be prepared to reassure new comers especially, how to get their poetry read on OP ,and what are poet's rights and privileges on the OP site. I had suggsted long ago, that we should abolish the rating system, and have small 'pro tem" panel of judges to select the wimming poem for the week. I also suggested that there should be only one entry per week per poet, in the Weekly Contest, and an the tenure of entry be two or three weeks with withdrawal of entry after. I also suggested that an entry could be re-entered, at a later date. In this way every poet would gain attention. I am under the impression that my recommendations have been ignored. as they were not even acknowledged. Of course, I shall not permit any discontent to make me cancel my membership, as I for-see more and more satisfaction coming for all members ,in due course. |

There are small press publishers on OP looking for poets to publish—I know this as fact as I have been picked up from this site for publishing by Stillpoint Press, who has published my first book: IN FORBIDDEN LANGUAGE, now available through our printer, www.lulu.com. I have been on several poetry sites and this is the one that offers the possibility of publication in an anthology and with outside publishers looking for poets. If you want more comments on a particular poem, then spend the time needed to make your friends aware of this. There are close to 50 thousand poets on this site, so one has to do more than post a poem to get noticed. It's arrogant to think that all one has to do is post a poem and all of OP will respond. Doesn't work this way, that is, until you are established, then your "fans" are looking for new poems from you, and you still have to work to get the numbers up. Peace and Light, dah |

RE: Getting Discouraged with OPWhoa MaryAnne- im not making assumptions- nor am I condemning the fact that SB threw out names- he wrote in his post, if someone did not want to be 'named'- come forward.. so I did. -and Im sorry MA- this entire topic is based on the concepts of cliques, and circles! -so my reply on this issue, was a reply ABOUT this issue- which may not be an issue to me... but odviously IS a HUGE-ASS issue to many. |

I've been here for nigh on twenty years……I was here before the land was cultivated, before the fruits of poetry played upon the fields of tender grass……..don't get discouraged if the winds of discourse blow your way……walk into the forums with humor, sarcasm, bitterness, joy, controversy….get into the games they play……into the limericks, and most of all…get in among the crowd…. Totally not even the same concept as SB's letter here on the forum. Our greetings was trying to bring OP to the next level, for live reads- this letter by SB is a letter of active members( and the word 'circle', was NOT my description.. it was SBs.) I will not apologize to anyone for being in the group I am in on here- it happens to be the most talented group of writer- friends I could ever dream of rubbin' elbows with! I wont apologize others do not share the common interests we do- that brought us all so close, and I sure as hell won't sit here with egg on my face, because I think the idea of 'catagorizing' who is popular- being public, is what I think to be a shallow, social, sell out. I love Standing Bear- I do... I am just a writer here- who believes in poetry. Take me/or leave me. MaryAnne this letter SB wrote, is NOT a ' Hello Op..' letter- its a letter of the names which have founded this website, and made it a success- and it was written from SB to Julie.. in refrence to 'cliques' - if working my ass off, writing and pullin' all nighters- and promoting friends who write is a clique, or 'circle' thing- then honey, my name is written in big fat red letters- but I will choose how Im represented.. and Im sorry- the A-list thing is NOT my thing. Maddi GOT TO RESPECT THIS......REAL TALK. MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT TO YOU MADDIE.......THIS IS WHY YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I always love how you word things Gogant. It fills my soul with such light. As for the topic of this particular forum it is very important to remember it is not about the quantity of comments that you receive but the quality. If you only get one comment on a poem but it is evident that that person truly got something out of your work consider it a job well done and move on. If not well as long as you are satisfied with your work then that's all that matters. For a very long time I wrote simply for the praise and appeased the masses that read my work however I was extremely dissastisfied with what I was producing. It was scary to break away from them and take my own route saying to hell with what others thought or said. Write for yourself, no one else. |

RE: Getting Discouraged with OPTo all those who are getting fustrated and thinking of leaving OP please read this, I have the answer for those who really want to know. I have created a forum with the help of a team of poets on OP that is called, "The ins and outs of OP". This forum was created specifically with the idea to help orient new members to the site and teach you all the little tricks that experienced members have learned about the site. In particular I focused alot on how to get your poetry read as I know most people join OP for this reason, to share. Here is the opening thread to my forum that will better describe the purpose and intent of the forum: Last edited by angel33614 12-12-2010 at 03:41:59 AM |
