How To Become More Visible In The OP Community 101There are many ways you can increase your visibility in the community but the real question is why do you care? Easy and simple, the more popular and visible you are on the site the more people will want to be your friend and thus read you poetry, and it is this point that everything comes back to. How do I get more views and more comments, this is one way. Last edited by angel33614 09-21-2010 at 04:53:40 PM |

RE: How To Become More Visible In The OP Community 101I think this is the most important point of all for those who would like to get their poetry read. The more visable you are the more you yourself will be read. While I may not enjoy this site, as often as I would like to, I have found when I do take the time to read and comment on others -- the favor is often quickly returned. RE: How To Become More Visible In The OP Community 101Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Do not be afraid to join in the conversations, or comment on threads. Live in a cave the only ones you see are other cave dwellers. Everyone has an opinion, do not be afraid to voice yours. |

RE: How To Become More Visible In The OP Community 101I'm probably repeating what others have said, but participating in the threads is a great way to be more visible. One thread I really enjoy is the School of Poetry thread - great way to for others to get acquainted with you, and a great way to really stretch your poetry skills! |

RE: How To Become More Visible In The OP Community 101chat: I've found that the conversation moves so fast and in many directions, that my typing is too slow. Also, people talking about sex and other private matters, too much cursing, not enough poetry, or at least, people concerned about it. I go in and start reading off the list of folks in the room and then comment and come back in to read the next poet. not much of a stategy, but, I get about a 10% response from all the reads and comments I give. I have had a few friends added to my circle of friends, and Rygar pops in sometimes to encourage. |

RE: How To Become More Visible In The OP Community 101I have never gone to the chat rooms.......I, like you, Marck, type too slow. |

Easy and simple, the more popular and visible you are on the site the more people will want to be your friend and thus read you poetry, and it is this point that everything comes back to. How do I get more views and more comments, this is one way. Forums- there are many different forums about countless topics, from news, to fun conversations, insightful mind teases, word games, poetry challenges, a school for poetry, and much, much more. I am sure there is a topic for just about everyone’s interest, becoming more active in the forums helps to spread your name and profile. The forums are public to everyone on OP, all 40,00 plus members. So when you are active and posting more and more people will see your name and the more well known you become, the more people will be interested in reading your poetry. When you post a new thread within side a forum it also shows up on everyone’s page for a short time, at least till the next post. If you really want to get active and more noticed you can even come up with your own topics, you will be surprised how easy it is and how quick some topics can take off. Chat rooms- there are several different chat rooms to choose from based on the topic of interest but most people as of late hang out in the read my poetry chat room. You can even create you own personal chat room if you like about whatever topic. So why chat? One of the easiest ways to make new friends is to talk to people in real time, ask them to read your poetry and then you can read theirs. With 40,000 plus members there are also a lot of ghost accounts and other people that come on very rarely, now I am not telling you who to be friends with but if you want to get your poetry read it is good to choose friends that are active and actually come on the site. The chat room is one way to find active poets who are on frequently, these poets usually make good friends as they will come and read your poetry as long as you return the favor, this is always a key part of the equation! Comments- remember that when you comment on one of your friend’s poetry it is not just them that see it, everyone of their friends and anyone else that comes to review the same poem will also see your comments. Why does this matter? Simple, more you comment, the more visible you will become to others. I have found many friends this way, when I see the same name over and over on multiple poems, I say hey this is some one who is active and reads and comments on their friends poetry, is this not the friend you want? Also, back to how you review. If you leave constructive, objective, in depth comments people will notice and others will want you as a friend and will come to review your poetry. People like in depth reviews, both the poet who wrote the poem as well as their friends and other’s who see and comment on the poem. One of my nicknames is the Poem buster because of the time and effort I put into the review process, I actually know of a few of my friends that will follow behind me to read and comment on a poem, just to see what I wrote. Why do you care, well these same poets are also loyal reviews of my poetry and always read everyone of my poems. Why not have fans, get people interested in what you are doing, saying, commenting, make them know your name. In the end this equates to becoming more visible in the community and thus will increase your views and comments. RE: How To Become More Visible In The OP Community 101Ok, bombed on that one-- I do read and comment, hoping to elicit a response. After I have done that, I send a p/m asking them to read a selection. If they don't respond, move on--NO!!! I, then send them really bad poetry to have them beg for mercy! (its kind of fun in a wordy way) this is a trade secret: four yor I's onely! |

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
