it's a moot point to say the leastyou and I both know my friend that most people here can't and don't want constructive critism, most are just looking for a pat on the back. People only want the truth with a little "t", the kindof truth that fits into thier perfectly created box of illusions, if it doesn't fir or the truth is ugly they would much rather believe a nicely created lie, this is the truth with a captital "T", for this is reality. If you give truely constructive critism than most people tend to take it as a personal attack on them, very few are able to be introspective and take a critism at face value, a way to gain knowledge and further our skills, to change and improve. I have a good friend who is a PHD in literture and used to be a real poetry teacher, he teaches on this site. He takes my poems and cuts them up into little tiny shreds, but he does so gracefully and not maciously. At first, I will be honest, I did take his critisms a little personal as he called some of my poetry dribble but when I looked past my ego and tried to understand his point of view I did see he had a point and I have tried with his help to improve, and I think I have made great strides. Based on my reviews my scores and reads have all gone up. There is always ways to improve, no one is perfect. If we stop learning than we stop growing, and become stangant and stuck in a muck. We as humans have to constantly keep challenging ourselves to change and better ourselves, this is where true growth can be found. I would say to keep doing what you are, when I do a review I try to focus on the positve aspects of the poem first then if I feel there is something that could be done to improve the poem or the style I send them a personal PM, this way they don't feel like you are personally attacking them directly. I usually say that I really enjoyed the poem and try to point out something positive and them say i think you could improve this poem by... Just food for thought. I would stop giving constructive critism just beacuse a few people get offended, it is near impossibe to make everyone happy. I am always pleased with your reviews, good, bad indifferent. you can review my work anytime and never be afriad to point out to me where I can improve or do something better, I may not always agree with you but I will give it an honest thought and consideration. I hope you don't get to discouraged by a masses of ignorance that is society, there are many poets I know here who really appreciate constructive critism, maybe you just have the wrong friends, lol. Purity of the soul, journey well!!! with grace and humility ANGEL |
In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
