Our Service Men and Women

Our Service men and women are not
Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, or other.
The color of their skin matters not.
When one is called by his or her comrades,
they respond without thought to the above mentioned things.
They are what their name states,
Men and women that choose to serve.

They did not come from the North, South, East or West.
They come from everywhere.
Not my town or your town.
My state or your state.
They come from within OUR Country.

Our armed forces are tough and strong.
compassionate, loving and
brave beyond our comprehension.

They are leaders and followers.
They do what is needed when it is needed.
Their weapons are not used blindly.
They're not used un-nessasaryily.
Weapons are used when there is no other choice.

They use them without hesitation.
Hesitation could mean death.
Death to themselves and those around them.

They not only protect each other,
but they also protect the innocent.
The young, the old, the men, the woman
and yes the children.

Death of the innocent is something they
never want to have to deal with.
Sadly, sometimes it happens.

The children of this country and others.
Children caught in the middle.
Children that did not choose to be where they are,

but they are there just the same.

They are lonely and tired.
Sometimes they feel scared,
but they do their jobs just the same.

Their goal always in sight.

To help others and to release them from their fright.

Our Service men and Service women are....
Amazing and they are greatly appreciated.
They are more special then they realize.
So to each and everyone,
I say THANK YOU for everything you have done!

Written in memory for all who have served in the past. For all who are serving presently and for any that choose to serve in the future. All of you are greatly appreciated. Hopefully there will come a day when all we know is peace.

THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!!

11/11/2010 The 19th anniversary of my Fathers passing.

With love from Beth Applegate

RE: In Uniform~OP Poets-Fighting for Freedom

I was just watching Huckabee and heard a beautiful song. Made me cry. It was written as a result of a chance encounter with a solider and a American citizen in an airport. I didn't try to utube it, but the following is the link to her song. Well worth .99 cents! Songs like this touch my heart. Thank you to all our service Men and Women!!!

RE: In Uniform~OP Poets-Fighting for Freedom

We Must Remember

The times of old that made us who we are,
The times we traveled near and far.

The losses we have suffered,
the triumphs we have gained,
the times we were congratulated,
the times that we were shamed.

Look not upon these old days with scorn and distaste,
Think not that any of these times was ever a waste.

We our nothing but the sum of our memories,
whether they be joyful or filled with calamities.

Remember those who gave their lives in all these different wars,
The ones whos futures turned into a journey to the River Styx's shores,
The ones who fought abroad so that who at home would be safe,
The ones who will never again see their lover's or children's face.

Remember all these days, for they shaped your present,
and never ever see your life and start to resent it.

Life is special, it is something you must cherish,
and the day we forget those who are gone is the day they truly perish.

RE: In Uniform~OP Poets-Fighting for Freedom

I've been fighting for the freedoms that everyone in the US takes for granted every day for the last nine years. My poems are mostly about romance, but there are a couple in there that are about other topics. Please read them and comment on them. I appreciate any and ALL opinions that you have. Thank you, in advance.

RE: In Uniform~OP Poets-Fighting for Freedom

I've been a member of OP for over two years now, but thanks WordSlinger. I've got one item up that isn't really a poem. It's more or less a part of the book that I've been writing for the last ten years.

Thank you all for helping me with the honor of these ladies, and gentlemen.
