RE: In Uniform~OP Poets-Fighting for FreedomFor Grito and WS, Many thanks for your thoughts and prayers for Michael and every other person involved in the war. As we sit home, comfortable in our easy chairs and point the remote at the Tv never let these soldiers be out of our prayers or far from our thoughts, Mary lea |

But for now, I can only wish them all the best, and may God keep them safe… |

RE: In Uniform~OP Poets-Fighting for FreedomMlea, our's are all impeccable warriors for God and they bring honor to God, this greatest of countries and to their families. I hold all warriors in a very special and highest of regard, as I do their families. I think many others agree. |

A Warrior's Poem Murder--So FoulMembers of the 104th Infantry marching though the snow soon after their attack of Christmas day. Photo courtesy of the National Archives and Records Administration. A Warrior's Poem: "Murder--So Foul" I shot a man yesterday And much to my surprise, The strangest thing happened to me I began to cry. He was so young, so very young And Fear was in his eyes, He had left his home in Germany And came to Holland to die. And what about his Family were they not praying for him? Thank God they couldn't see their son And the man that had murdered him. I knelt beside him And held his hand-- I begged his forgiveness Did he understand? It was the War And he was the enemy If I hadn't shot him He would have shot me. I saw he was dying And I called him "Brother" But he gasped out one word And that word was "Mother." I shot a man yesterday And much to surprise A part of me died with Him When Death came to close His eyes. (c)Sgt. James Lenihan James Lenihan of Brooklyn, New York, wrote a poem at his despair after killing an enemy soldier in World War II. Poem Source: and Poem Story: Poems have even been written about and to James Lenihan. These two links have many comments on this poem by US Soldiers, and more.http://www.dcoe.health.mil/blog/article.aspx?id=1&postid=102 http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/05/28/soldier.poem/index.html Lenihan said even though the incident in the poem took place more than 60 years ago, it still resonates and should be a lesson to young soldiers coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan that they aren't the first to face such emotional turmoil as this. RE: Gun Poets That Sang-Fighting for FreedomQuote: &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& What mean these whited stones Raised above the grass On fllowered meadows wide and large? Can tears or pride bring back those fellows To warm the wounded bosoms of their lovers? Why mark the spot where dry bones lie? . For what insane reason did they die, Great hearts in young and valiant breasts, Dressed in gaudy dress paraded. Were ordered to rot as sacrifice. . Humanity's face is rouged with blood, She feeds on the errors of men; How foul is her ruthless breath She breathes o'er the wasted graves . . |

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
