Re: Smack Down, Cage match, Dual to the Death Poetry SLAM!

COMMON LAW

The story always goes like this
They come at me clinching their fists
But the thing they don't know about me
The risk is always more than what it seems
It isn't in the way you approach me
or the way that you walk
It isn't in the name that you give me
or the way you talk

It's Law, It's Law, Common Law

I see them and I see in their eyes
They come at me with all of their might
The thing that they don't realize
is that I'm always ready to fight
It doesn't matter if you scare me
or if I feel safe
It doesn't matter if its important
or who's to blame

It's Law, It's Law, Common Law

So when you speak to me, speak to me clearly
I want to be sure that I hear you
When you preach to me, preach to me freely
Cause here's the thing I'm trying to tell you
I don't want you to go to far
or dig to deep
I don't want to know who you are
just remember one thing

It's Law, It's Law, Common Law

Should'ves, would'ves, could'ves, and cant's
They mean you shouldn't take that chance
But with the double dealing mayhem at work
The trouble always seems to expand
Intimidation won't always work
nor the way that you walk
Forget about wishful thinking
or the way that you talk

It's Law, It's Law, Common Law

Re: Smack Down, Cage match, Dual to the Death Poetry SLAM!

My son,
I see you lying
bruised and bloodied
on the floor.
Raising your head,
rising up once more.

Why must you fight?
What is it that makes
you raise your fist?
Why, my son, why this?

Please lay your anger down,
my son,
You are a stronger man
now
believe
and know this too shall pass.

Release yourself from the cage,
walk free
my son
and please
give peace a chance.

I see you
bruised and bloodied
on the floor.

Your wounds bleed
my blood, my son,

I want more
for you
than
war.

My entry

Frame of mind ♫

http://www.originalpoetry.com/frame-of-mind-acirclaquo

Untrained critics ... whip cracked lives ... fear to unwind ... Words rhyme

The wrong frame of mind, can cause you to journey

Through the wrong sort of places on our so called lives

Seldom scenes of times you embark on curios misadventures

Whirling emotions that causes a drift into daydreams nearby

In your soul past the lying eyes in your sadness inside weeping

Reminds to taste some of this frame on mind

Ruining those that it seeks to dismantle

Suddenly all that you stand for is touching gossips door

Missing qualities we all have and they talk and talk

Comical, to observe now you want to give me this option,

Reminds to taste some of this frame on mind

Switching it off would only leaves blank faces

Be the best or go get better hope if one can't beat them

Well maybe I can clean the haze behind the veil between

Where mask touches face and becomes one with the wearer

Remind me to taste some of this frame on mind

What good is my independence, if you infect freewill?

One wont show or let it go with sorrow they refuse happiness

The past bought tears and vile intentions that badly

Starting in the corners that are lost inside your mind

Remind me to taste some of this frame on mind

Avalanches & tidal waves, it's not just the weather that’s crazy

Life is fueled and sent to battle time, were choices to ponder,

So it it’s a sad situation owning ruling any decisions wronged

Necessary hard moments push us beyond voicing belief

Remind me to taste some of this frame on mind

Words rhyme easily every expression follows without question.

win or lose no overtime unfound direction silences the mind it unwinds

Screamcertain sets of uncertain findings travel into a tangled mess

Circumstance, cotton trail knot of words unique poets on show

Remind me to taste some of this frame on mind

Make-believe pop out pictures lightening concepts found

Papa, Would that be my best poem against another poet's best? Winner take all for that week. Winner takes on a new challenger until beaten. Poem could be on any subject and voted on by forum readers. If that's the idea, I like it. How would you choose the contestants?Would be a fun way to introduce " unknown Poets " who haven't gotten the recognition they deserve.

A NOSE FOR IT

And aye, it were of these waves rolling under the broad bow of the Spinnaker
One could see his long lost gaze to sail, would be drawn to another vessel,
A shining mariner's vision, if only she could be his delivery of passage...
But, alas his great main sheet of a nose, would permit no dream alive,
and hence, turned down his sight, to the water's white-frothed offerings
once, and again as in times past, lent it to guide the noble ship

Recount time and again, the ringing pain in sore ears wincing
from the sound played on soft lips, terse scripts unflinching
In silent hot tears, a name known intimately as one’s own
The mirror shows the point of no contention
As plain as that face gives aspect to ruin

The woes are upon him as swells crush battered coast
Will mortal sighs abandon at the sight in morbid reflection
Hope’s acquaintance, fleeting to behold what plagued him most
The lottery of form, no consolation, gives no heed to boast

And aye, it were through these waves undulating beneath sunken pride
His brokenness, by a dreams’ great distance, fades to white
Resignation to bank on the fog and unknown sorrow
Unwelcome friend and foe, sail on the seas’ morrow

If there were a parchment, blue, it is said
His great horned bill, filters the salt in the wind
Discerning sweet fragrance that ever has been
That for his love who abides the ocean bed

Her smile’s light, a potion to the heart
Reminds once again, oceans apart
Blank is the stare, spy the sea green
And will always this lass
Be the course of lost dream

Re: Smack Down, Cage match, Dual to the Death Poetry SLAM!

Mmm to question, is the winner on a fourth down with a punt or was that a field goal for three? hehehe sorry no dis! A superb challenge brought forth and if and when the words start flying oh my I want in wOOt! Strength and maturity comes from those who never know they ever helped! Make some noise people!

Words can fly like wind from the sky, but truly its those who's words that sink that are the ones that make you think! Aw man lets get r done because its just a game so to those that think their words are lame just let it go because jee whiz poetry is more than what we know! Give it a go o ho ho ho!

Sorry its just a silly from me!

Honestly, I'm not sure, but I think the finaly two would end up with sticks to finish it off.

Being a cage fight, there is no way to have a tag team. Every poet for themselves!

Get the voters/jury ready-
Beware the Machete

I Challenge My Team Mate Malik Peterson

MACHETE

An octopus, colliding flashes
Hazardous, worse than matches
The weeds, and the trees
They all try to stop me
The leaves, and the bees
spread out around me

If you see me, run and hide
If you see me, don't think twice
If you see me, better get ready
If you see me, beware of the machete

My adrenaline locks rush
and I don't care much
About what happens next
Its only you I catch
My mouth says hey
Then I show in ways
That create your fear
and to all those who hear

Butchering, the things around me
Horrinderous, the sounds are frightening
As sharp as shark teeth light but strong
as bright as lightning in the sun

I'm always up for a good challenge. Bring it on.

Re: Smack Down, Cage match, Dual to the Death Poetry SLAM!

I think we could run this like a survivor series. Pick 24 contenders and pair them up for 5 weeks. 24, first week- 12, 2nd week- 6, 3rd week- 3, 4th week (with highest vote getter drawing a bye) 5th week- pits top two contenders. I agree with wordslinger, you use what you've got, but the poem must change from week to week. That way a bit of strategy would be involved. If we do this " write " EVERYONE benefits. Even if you lose, you still get read. It's a great way for us to introduce new poets and meet those unknown Superstars still out there.
After the first contest, we start all over again with new conteders. I would suggest we go by votes, not ratings. I'll offer to be the moderator. (Remember, it goes by actual votes not by my decision.) we'd need a sign up list and I'd need to do the pairings, but after that it's up to the voters. What do you think? It could be a lot of fun as long as we handle it correctly. cool smile

Re: Smack Down, Cage match, Dual to the Death Poetry SLAM!

Amendment... all three the 4th week. that would give us a twelve champion showdown at year's end for the title of POET'S CHOICE AWARD. cool smile

Smack Down, Cage match, Dual to the Death Poetry SLAM!

Ok, there is 8 here that has posted including you Bandit, so we need more contenders, 16 more? lol.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd poems and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a forum!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In OP is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall show it
O'er the land of the free and the home of the Poets!

Re: Smack Down, Cage match, Dual to the Death Poetry SLAM!

I thought everyone gave up on this. Anyone interested send me a personal message. We'll shoot for 24. First come, first served. I'll compile a list and pair them off. We'll start Jan. 1, 2010 AM. John, you're on the list. I need the others to confirm as soon as possible. If we happen to go over 24, they will be up next for Feb. 1st. Remember, I'm the moderator and can't be in the contest. Unless we don't get enough poets.
Let's get the word out, NEW SURVIVOR POET CONTEST. Maybe PAPA could mention it in the next news letter. COME ON ALL YOU POETS WHO WANT TO GET NOTICED. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE. LET"S HAVE FUN, AND COME OUT WORD SLINGING.
cool smile

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
