The ProjectI have started a group and will continue its work. I have written poetry for a great many of years. I know what it is like to work hard and do things no one else thought couldn't be done. I have spoken to a number of you poets here. After thinking about my future on this sphere we dwell on I have come to this conclusion. I am nothing without the help of you all and you will find a hard time if you do things alone. being that as it may. I have put my work on the chopping block on this site and others like this. I know there is an audence for it. I also know we all pour our emotions out on the screen or paper here there is an audence for anything. The question I put on the table, why do we poor our emotions on the screen or paper for nothing. Song writers get paid for thier work, Why can't we enjoy our work printed out to finance our lively hood. We all have bills we all need to eat and we can't live in this world for free. If some one spouts out that they want to market thier work people scuff and say good luck finding a publisher or tell you there is no money in it, or better yet your a sell out. Yet Poetry.com and other sites make billions while we are left to starve. Without us they have no buisness. I ask myself do I wait for someone else to dictate to me that I am good enough or think I am a sell out because I wish to sell my work to make a living for my family. I was told a long time ago you can either do things as a hobby or a buisness you pay if its a hobby but you get paid if its a buisness so fellow poets I pose one question would you rather pay for your hobby or get paid for your God given talent. Think about it and get back to me with an answer I am curious as to what would you want. Plot121... Last edited by Plot121 08-04-2009 at 02:03:59 AM |

Re: The ProjectI give my, three arms, to the fight, if we need my, slinging legs, then corporate fucs, are to me are kicked eggs, I shall not count my chicks before they hatch, shall I the poet farmer be scared of the road my pen hatched, I shall not fear, I know where I shall go, because I shall be. |

Re: The ProjectI have a definate opinion on this question posed.First,my late father(God,rest his soul)-Always told my brother and I-If youre doing something you love, then youll never work a day in your life!-So true. However,I believe that anything worth doing-a person should work as the day is long.Hard work pays off.Financially and spiritually. |

Re: The Project The talent that teachers, writers, and friends have on this site have helped me tremendously, and would not change the team work provided for anything, I enjoy the great efforts put forth to help my work mold into poetry.I love to write, simply put my pen out all the things I never thought I could say and they just come out on the page, as time move your work becomes more crafted then expected. Some I could agree could get paid on a daily basis with the work they put out, would that not be a joy I think we all have a passion for writting or none of us would not be here. Personally me I would too also enjoy publishing a book just to see my name on something I was so passionate about would be priceless. When it comes to people getting paid to write poetry to each its on if you so choose to do so have at it. The talent to actually push yourself that far would be well deserved. There all so many talented people on this site that anyone has the means to do what ever they put there mind to . Last edited by optimistic 08-04-2009 at 11:53:10 AM |

Re: The ProjectThe obvious reply would be, "I would rather be paid for my talents...but not in the traditional, monetary fashion." I have a few talents, and I am pleased when one person says, "That is a beautiful painting." So, all the strokes and inner meanings that were painstakingly put into a poem, a carving, a painting, or what have you, were worth it. |

Re: The ProjectI believe that most of us would prefer to get paid for our 'God given talent' or at least I would. Though I haven't posted many poems on this site, I have self-published three books and completing my fourth. Of course, if a traditional publisher sought me out I'd be greatful but with all the negativity about receiving rejection letters I chose the only way out I know. And besides, how can they seek out someone they've never heard of. If I was famous already that would be a different story. In no way am I negating those who enjoy the praise from family and friends--I do, too, but a little money sure would help and believe me I am very, very passionate about my writing no matter whether it be erotica, inspirational, romantic or whatever. My fourth book is entitled "Voices of the Children" and is about the abuse of children by an adult figure or their parent. Too many of them are being murdered and not enough attention is given to them (with the exception of a few who made national and international coverage) to prevent this from continuing. BTW, I tried to post a poem to FaceBook but it looked like a novel rather than a poem or is that the way it's supposed to look on there? Can someone help me with that? If there is anything I can do to help with the promotion of our books, please let me know because I will help in any way I can. |

Re: The ProjectI'd like to be paid, sure, but it depends on the cost of being paid (you KNOW what I mean!). There are too many shipwrecks in the world right now engendered by a "slippery slope" like,"If we just change the wording this little bit, Mr Bigcrotch might be interested" I'm happy, I'm not about to pay anybody to allow me to write it. If somebody wants to read it that's GREAT. If they like it, it's even better. If somebody wants to pay me for reading it, that would be nice, but not if writing it became another JOB! |

Re: The ProjectWho wouldn't like to make $$$ from doing something they enjoy. I guess it's knowing where to get started, knowing if you have enough to go with and making it all fit. Right now I'm working full-time and just entered graduate school. My plate is full, but I still find time to write my poetry and would love to know how to make money from it. I don't think it becomes 9-5 for them. Same with video game makers, actors, really anything. If you love doing something, why shouldn't you be able to get paid to do it all the time? -Papa Paczki |

Re: The ProjectMadelyn has the right ideal, as far as i'm concernd. poetry is something we do to release our inner emotions. those we just can't tell others. it would be great to get paid to sit here and scratch on paper every day. but, as Madelyn pointed out. when it becomes a job, you may find that it's just not the same anymore. |
When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
