Leave the Sanctuary Intact

My idea for this thread is to post poems that rebel against urbanizing a natural area for development by corporations. "The Glen" is a poem I wrote on that subject.

The Glen

Leave the glen alone all by itself
or instead-
go there for respite
tranquility
bird-watching
listen to the breezes
while the water trickles.
lie down upon the ground
watch the clouds pass by
the glen is self-sustaining
the glen gives border to orchards
the glen is a protectorate
the glen gives peace of mind
the glen is a reminder
that without protest
some big moneyed beast
will end the glen
and all mentioned herein
concrete roads and erect signs
will steal its fragile existence
a niche of natural beauty-
leave the glen alone all by itself

Great thought Ginga! I cut timber for a short time, and had to quit because of the way it made me feel (no knocks on any timber cutter's out there). I hated to see those trees fall. Anyway, I realize that a certain amount has to be done, but there should be some sanctuary where wildlife is safe - at least from a chainsaw and a department store. Thanks for posting this thread. I will try to write a poem as well. Thanks.

I worked in the Wilderness every summer for 15 years and every time returning to the City was painful.
This is my poem about it

You understand Nostalgia for Taiga
If you wake up among the stony giants
And you will try to interrupt invasion
Of loneliness which drive you out of mind

And you will carry burden of the sadness
You miss this world where life intense and deep
On crowded streets inside the city madness
Where grayish rain just drip on the concrete

Your soul was burned in scarlet flame of aspens
Your heart was drowned in sparkling river light
And all events become "before" or "after"
That turning point of your entire life
