Economic Divide
No matter how hard we try,
there is an Economic Divide.
we're labeled by the colors..
of our tribe.
1.
You got your eyes open
but it don't mean you can see
Dig a little deeper
than what you seen on TV.
Immigrants,..
have come to this nation
But not without the price
of discrimination.
Lady liberty welcomes
the tired, poor & weak
But not to exploit them
leave em out on the street.
They come to do work
no one else will touch
Working 15 hour days
~without even a lunch.
The modern day slave
has come here by choice
Screaming for help
but they got no voice.
Can't you see your Grandpa-
Father, Brother
Standing in line
to work for the dollar?
This once was your Grandma,
Mother, Sister
On their hands and knees
workin through pain of the blisters.
.Every nation, & generation
has suffered exploitation
Why do we turn a blind eye
to the same situations?
2.
Mom and Dad struggled
~3 babies to feed
Drove across the border
for the American Dream.
Life, as they knew it
was left far behind
Neva woulda have guessed
the hardships they'd find
Dad got the job
no gringo would take..
Mom is scrubbin
toilets to this day~
30 years now a citizen...
but still treated the same
Still i never heard
neither 1 complain.
Ain't nothin changed
still see the same thing,
It 's the hungry immigrant
~who is always the willing...
New Orleans asked for workers
~so they came to rebuild
A man fights to not be mistreated,
ends up getting killed..
They're told to work hard,
keep your mouth shut or get deported
Undocumented illegals
will never report it.
if history's tought us anythig
~is that society lacks truth
Wanna see our future ?
..take a look at our youth!
3.
It's a "complex position"
where the politician resides
When migration to this nation
is American as apple pie..
Yesterdays immigrants
have become tomorrows leaders
Why are they living today,
beween misery and fear?
No dream will realized
for those who died on the doorstep
On exudus to the promise land
with no compassion for the poorman.
Hold hands w/ Brothers and Sisters
who need us at this time ~
The struggle that was yours,
will now be mine.
The spirit of our ancestors
will have us walk with Dignity
As we grow in power & numbers
towards a stronger Unity.
Forgive the people
that act out from an oppressed mind
We must 'uplift' each other,
if we are to survive.
The immigrant hand
has no different color, no different race
Language of compassion
speaks more than "ingles".
Time will collide
the economic divide
Erase lall abels,
Be 1 Nation of The Human Tribe.
