Dreamland (A Respite)
Night’s wonders hold me in their grasp.Fairy wings shimmer under bright moonbeams
while their owners fly, back and forth,
playing hide-and-seek with angels.
Midnight creatures encircle the willow tree
in a dance of supplication to Selene ~
her constant glow high in the sky
lends the shadowy meadow a sense serene.
lends the shadowy meadow a sense serene.
Wizards have long waved their wands
under the light she casts so sweet,
practicing spells, and protecting the land
from fire-breathing dragons that would destroy them.
Magicians cast off demons with a flick of the wrist,
keeping their communities safe from harm.
Loved like family by the villagers,
around the neck they wear a powerful charm.
around the neck they wear a powerful charm.
Look to the sky and see the Pegasus,
mortal winged horse who served the God Zeus,
bringing him thunder and lightning;
never failing at his important task.
This steed was loved by the Greek God;
on the last day of his life
he transformed into a constellation
to live forever in the stars, free of strife.
Dreamland, always a place where I can find solace
from the reality of issues facing me.
If only to rest my mind and body for a short while,
traveling to a fantasy dwelling where all is surreal,
mountains can be scaled in a single leap
and I possess the ability to fly,
grants me the respite sorely needed
to give tomorrow another try.
to live forever in the stars, free of strife.
