    Displaced Soul

Through the gloom, these ghosts do wander
Like displaced souls searching for home
In the shadows here and yonder
    Painful memories do so roam
In the dusty recesses of the mind
    These forgotten words float free
A broken tape stuck on rewind
A ruined slideshow of what used to be
    Locked away from daylight
    Far from the conscious time
A love borne one fateful night
    The frozen past does repine.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
